The one job it does

This utility runs the open-source Real-ESRGAN upscaler. It takes an image and returns a version four times larger with reconstructed detail. One typical use is a generated poster that needs to go to a print shop. Others are a product shot for a large banner and a cover image for a book or album. It also helps with a photo you want to crop tightly without it turning to mush.

It does not edit. Say a hand has six fingers or a sign is misspelled. The upscaled version will have the same mistake, only sharper. Fix content first on a generator or editor, then upscale.

Where to run it

Two Ugesi tools use this engine: AI Image Upscaler and AI Image Resizer. Neither has presets, so there is nothing to choose beyond your image. AI Image Resizer takes an image upload directly. That makes it the straightforward route when the file is on your device.

Getting a clean result

Send the highest-quality version you have. A PNG straight from the generator beats a screenshot. A screenshot, in turn, beats a copy that was sent through a chat app. Compression artifacts get enlarged along with everything else.

Crop before, not after, when you only need part of the image. You pay per image, so the price is the same either way. Cropping first, though, means the reconstruction effort goes into the area you will actually use. Then check fine text, hair and edges at full size before sending the file anywhere.

Neighboring utilities and when you need them instead

The listed alternatives do different jobs at lower rates. Remove Background at 3 credits cuts a product or person onto transparency. Segment Anything 2 at 2 credits returns masks for later edits. BLIP at 1 credit writes captions and alt text. Upscale 4x ranks No. 7 of 8 utilities, counting from the cheapest, which reflects that it is a finishing step.

Cost per batch

One image is 10 credits, about $0.11 at the best pack. Ten images processed separately cost 100 credits, about $1.06.
